Help Young Artists Reach Their Full Musical Potential
3MBS has had the privilege of producing the annual Victorian Young Performer Award for thirty-four years and it has fast become one of the state’s most prestigious youth music competitions. Many of the artists we currently see on stage performing alongside Australia’s premier orchestras and ensembles, and with international guest artists, began their musical journeys by competing in the Victorian Young Performer Award—MSO cellist Rohan de Korte, soprano Kathryn Radcliffe, pianists Hoang Pham and Amir Farid, rising cellist Charlotte Miles and, most recently, Melbourne Conservatorium of Music graduate, pianist Anna Gao.
The station is proud to play a pivotal role for Victorian emerging musicians by offering this annual opportunity that sees four finalists compete for a state prize and for the winner to go on to the national finals.
The Victorian Young Performer Award is an important milestone for many young classical musicians looking to further their careers. It encourages discipline through rigorous training, provides the opportunity to benchmark their musical talents against the demanding expectations of the national and international classical music landscape, promotes artistic excellence in a competitive environment and can provide a pathway for further study, training and live music performance. The Award also provides a performance and recording platform for talented young musicians to promote their talents to the broader music community through a live radio broadcast.

Your support as a Young Performer Angel donor will allow the station to uphold these initiatives for young artists and to continue producing the 3MBS Victorian Young Performer Award competition in the future which is an indispensable part of Melbourne’s innovative classical music sector.
Donations of $100 and above will be acknowledged on the dedicated event page on the 3MBS website and in the live event printed program.
