Details

The musical world is mourning the death of much-loved British conductor Sir Andrew Davis. His career spanned more than 50 years during which he was the artistic leader of some of the world’s leading opera companies and orchestras. As Chief Conductor of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra from 2013 until 2019, he led wonderful performances of an array of repertoire, including his own arrangement of Handel’s Messiah and masterworks by Mahler and Strauss. Sir Andrew was a familiar face worldwide through his televised BBC Proms concerts in London. He’s been described as an exemplary colleague and collaborator, and was loved by orchestras and audiences.

On Reflections this Sunday, you can hear Doug Beecroft’s interview with Sir Andrew Davis from his dressing room in Hamer Hall in 2016.
