Music Library Administration

Operatic baritone Simon Meadows performs with companies in Melbourne and Sydney and is particularly in demand for the heavier roles in Verdi, Strauss and Wagner. Between engagements, he continues his involvement in the music industry he loves by volunteering as a music cataloguer at 3MBS. His enthusiasm, charm and tremendous sense of fun as well as his wide knowledge of classical music as means that our librarians are always delighted when he is able to join the team. Simon's cataloguing skills developed partly from experience gained in organising his own extensive collection and partly from time spent working in a book publishing company. His musical interests, he says, are "not all about singing." He appreciates in music in all genres from many periods and is very keen on contemporary music. He studied piano and oboe in his schooldays in Sydney and then graduated from the VCA . He recalls his years there as the most formative and enjoyable of his life so far. Opera singers need to maintain great physical fitness and stamina. Simon started from a good place. Before professional demands absorbed most of his time, he was a talented track athlete. He competed in individual events at State level and was part of winning 400 metres State Championship team.
