Phil's musical journey began with singing in folk groups as well as acting in amateur theatre whilst in his teens during the 1960s. A lifetime of concert-going began after attending his first classical concert at the age of 15. He embarked on a career of acting and singing during the early 1970s and remained a professional performer for over thirty years. During this time he spent a year studying singing technique at the Queensland Conservatorium.

Following his retirement, Phil began volunteering at 3MBS in 2015, which has given him the opportunity to share his passion for music with listeners. He presents Morning Concert on Sundays and Concert Hall on Mondays (fortnightly).
