Frank has been a volunteer with 3MBS since 2010. He worked on Reception for the first 12 months, an experience he recommends to all newcomers to the station. ‘It’s a great way to get to know everyone – staff and volunteers alike – and you’re the first point of contact with our listeners and guests, either on the phone or in person.’
‘It was always at the back of my mind that when I retired I would investigate volunteering at 3MBS. This became reality when I took early retirement from The Age, where I had worked for over 30 years, in Library Services. And the fact that I live within a 10-minute walk made it a no-brainer.’
Frank’s life-long interest in music began at the age of 10 when he learned to play the piano, and for most of his adult life he has sung in choirs. His tastes are diverse and he’s happy singing (or playing) music from all periods, although he does have a soft-spot for German Romantic opera, and a decided weakness for less-known and obscure works and composers.
Currently he presents the Monday’s Daybreak program on a fortnightly basis, but is also involved in recording and editing Reflections and Illuminations programs, as well as many other production tasks that come his way.
