Melbourne has just been treated to hearing one of the greatest singers of our age in recital at the Melbourne Recital Centre and in Mahler’s Songs of a Wayfarer with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.  For more than 30 years American baritone Thomas Hampson has been at the top of his profession.  His repertoire includes over 80 operatic roles and he’s sung in all the world’s major opera houses, and recorded over 170 albums, many winning top awards.   While in Melbourne Doug Beecroft was able to interview him for a very special Reflections when Thomas Hampson spoke of his career, the special place of opera and song, and the importance of the arts in a liberal education.
