Join percussionist Callum Moncrieff as he presents a six-part series that looks into the mystery of the percussion section of the orchestra. Each week will focus on a different group of instruments, snare drums, cymbals, glockenspiel and more. Including live guests from the Melbourne percussion scene and interviews with the principal percussionist from the New York Philharmonic, Christopher Lamb, and the former principal percussionist of the West Australian Symphony Orchestra and head of percussion at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, Tim White.
The program includes musical examples, full works from the Classical, Romantic and 20th Century repertoire as well as some insight into the jazz vibraphone in the final episode.
Callum is a professional percussionist and drummer. In 2012 he was awarded a Churchill Fellowship to study the jazz vibes in Europe and the US. He moved to Melbourne in February 2013 and commenced volunteering at 3MBS later that year. He is currently performing in shows for the Melbourne Festival, the Port Fairy Spring Music Festival and the Melbourne Fringe Festival.
