On Reflections

Jordi Savall’s love of music started with singing in the school choir. At fifteen he started to learn the cello but when twenty-four, he discovered music that had been written for the viola da gamba. He changed instruments and had to learn a new way of playing. For twenty years he was first a student, then a teacher at the Scola Cantorum Basiliensis. With his wife, soprano Montserrat Figueras he founded various groups to perform early music: Hesperion XX (now Hesperion XX1), La Capella Reial de Catalunya and Le Concert des Nations. They also established their own recording label, Alia Vox to ensure the quality of their musical legacy. Jordi continues touring and producing new and exciting musical projects which he takes all over the world. He talks to Kiera Stevens about his life and long career on Reflections at 4pm Sunday 26 May, repeated 3pm Friday 31 May.
