Anthropologist Dr Paul Mason has a particular interest in the social context of infectious diseases. In Vietnam and Papua New Guinea he studied the care and treatment of people living with tuberculosis. His book, written to educate Vietnamese children and their families about the treatment and management of this disease, has had world wide success. Susan Porter talked with Paul about his fascinating career conducting field work studies in remote communities, and the role of the anthropologist in the prevention and treatment of tuberculosis.
