Transients Volume 2
Andrea Keller
Following the success of Transients Volume 1 (released May 3, 2019), which received nominations at the 2019 ARIA Awards, Music Victoria Awards and the Australian Music Prize, Australian pianist & composer Andrea Keller releases Transients Volume 2. The music from both albums was recorded over 2 days in October 2018 at Melbourne’s iconic Allan Eaton Studio in St Kilda and features a team of stellar musicians, who perform regularly with Keller as part of her Transients series (formed in January 2016).
The series of trios (with occasional additions and subtractions) that form Transients are inspired by late mentor Allan Browne’s musical philosophy. Dedicated to a collective approach to music making, the trios stem from a jazz tradition, which they interpret with an uninhibited, and somewhat unconventional, Australian accent. Showcasing an extensive pool of creative Melbourne musicians (both emerging and established), over the years the trios have performed at many of Melbourne’s jazz clubs (including ongoing residencies at Bennetts Lane: August 2016 – February 2017, and at Uptown Jazz Café: April 2017 - current), Melbourne Recital Centre, Melbourne Women’s International Jazz Festival, Melbourne International Jazz Festival, Wangaratta Jazz Festival, Ballarat Winter Festival, NGV Friday Nights, Four Winds NSW, and Perth International Jazz Festival.
The ensembles that feature on Transients Volume 2 include Wilson/Anning/Keller, Hale/McLean/Keller, Magnusson/Fisher/Keller, Magnusson/Keller + Flora Carbo & James Macaulay, capturing a cross-section of Transients and many previously unrecorded compositions.
