Through the Grille

The music of Hasse, Lotti, Porpora and Galuppi was written for young female musicians of the ospedale – orphanages – of Venice. In each of the four orphanages, singers and instrumentalists – maybe 40 in number – were trained to be virtuoso musicians, whose reputation for excellence was legendry.

Works will include Dixit Dominus by Galuppi and music by Hasse, Vivaldi, Lotti and Porpora, plus the brilliant Miserere – Allegri; and recent sacred music by Dubra and Forrest. The Melbourne Women’s Choir celebrates its 30th year in 2023.
