Requiem for an Empress

The Australian Boys Choir Performing Squad and The Vocal Consort

For over eighty years, the Australian Boys Choir has provided outstanding training for young people alongside exceptional performances for audiences. The extraordinary Requiem for an Empress is a program highlight for 2021. Performed at 2.30 pm on Saturday 15 May at St. Patrick's Cathedral, Ballarat, and at 3pm on Sunday 16 May at Sacred Heart Church, Carlton. The performance comprises a single 65-minute work, namely the Officium Defunctorum of 1605 by celebrated Spanish Renaissance composer Tomás Luís de Victoria. The work is perfectly suited to the voices of the Choir’s Performing Squad and The Vocal Consort. Artistic Director, Nicholas Dinopoulos has prepared a new edition of Victoria’s six-voice Requiem, incorporating the ancient chant into modern notation to make it easier for singers to read and understand. This program will be accompanied by the unique sound of the dulcian, or Renaissance bassoon. Book online - australianboyschoir.com.au/concerts
