Melbourne Welsh Male Choir

Melbourne Welsh Male Choir

The Melbourne Welsh Male Voice Choir was formed in 1984 and has since grown from a small group of enthusiastic singers into one of Australia’s acclaimed male choirs. The Music Director, David Ashton-Smith, is well known as adjudicator for the choir’s Singer of the Year annual competition. David also has his own choir – the Ashton-Smith Singers – and is heavily involved with the Australian Pops Orchestra. Simon Walters, the choir’s accompanist, emigrated from the UK to Melbourne in 2010. Whilst the choir receives strong audience support from the Welsh community and maintains a comprehensive Welsh repertoire, it now attracts a widely diversified audience because of the very breadth and variety of its repertoire. We also extend a warm welcome to Guest Artist, Kate Amos, as she makes her second appearance at Arden Crescent. One of Australia’s most versatile young sopranos, Kate combines a rare vocal versatility across the musical genres of opera, operetta and musical theatre.
