Brahms’ Piano Trio in A Major: A Melbourne Première
Eujin Wong (Piano), Nyssa Sanguansri (Violin) & Annika Cho (Cello)
This rarely performed work of Brahms will debut in Victoria at Melbourne's new Ian Potter Southbank Centre and performed by the accomplished members of the Brandenburg Trio, winner of the prestigious Melbourne Conservatorium of Music Chamber Music Competition (2012). Brahms' Piano Trio in A Major, discovered in 1924, is almost an hour in duration and features long sweeping melodies, a contrasting Scherzo and Trio: a play of dark forces versus good, folk dance rhythms and themes, skillfully wrought counterpoint writing and choral-like tunes reminiscent of J.S. Bach. Listeners can enjoy the work of the 20-year old Brahms, who in 1853 was still finding his stride and not overly concerned about perfection or public perception. Entry is by donation with proceeds going towards relief for drought-stricken farmers.
