Following another challenging year for young and emerging musicians, 3MBS would like to acknowledge the 33rd year of our Victorian Young Performer of the Year Award – a prestigious music competition showcasing many of Victoria’s finest young musicians as they perform and compete in front of a live audience – with a special live broadcast.

SPECIAL BROADCAST: ‘2020’ by Jasmine Lai
3MBS will proudly premiere the 2021 David Henkels Composition Award winning piece, ‘2020’ by Jasmine Lai.
Jasmine is a young composer, pianist, and percussionist. She is currently a year 9 student at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School (VCASS). She is studying composition from a renowned Australian Composer Tony Gould, piano from Glenn Riddle at VCASS, and orchestral percussion from Sergei Golovko at Australian Percussion Academy.
In 2019, she was awarded an Associate Diploma in Music Performance (Piano) from the Australian Music Examinations Board (AMusA Piano) and, in 2020, Associate Diploma in Orchestral Percussion from Trinity College London (ATCL Orchestral Percussion).
Jasmine is a multi-award-winning performer and composer having earned recognition from the Music Society of Victoria, the Australian Marimba Competition, the Bendigo Leila Watson Music Championship, the Australian Children Music Foundation’s (ACMF) National Songwriting Competition, the Artology Fanfare Composer Competition
In 2016, she performed her winning piece “Waltz in C major” in a World Composer Recital in Vienna Erhbar Hall.
