3MBS Fine Music Melbourne is delighted to announce the appointment of Gail Southwell as the station’s new General Manager.
Gail brings over two decades of arts management expertise to the role, most recently as General Manager of the award-winning Polyglot Theatre, which saw significant local and international growth during her tenure. Among other positions, she has previously worked as Business Manager for the Australian Book Review and has co-directed a commercial design company involved in the creation of some of Melbourne’s landmark buildings. She has been chosen to serve on selection panels for the City of Melbourne Arts Grants and was a member of the City of Port Phillip’s Cultural Development Fund Assessment Panel from 2013-2015. She is the current treasurer on the Board of Management for contemporary theatre company Elbow Room.
“We are delighted to welcome Gail to the 3MBS community,” says Chris Howlett, Chair of 3MBS. “On top of her extensive management experience, strategic acumen and fundraising skills, she also opens up new perspectives and most importantly, she clearly loves working with volunteers. That makes her a perfect fit for 3MBS at a time when the station has never been stronger.”
“Our listener numbers have grown substantially in recent months thanks to new technology and the shifting media landscape,” he adds. “Under Gail’s management, we look forward to welcoming even more listeners, strengthening our alliance with the Fine Music Network and expanding our recording capabilities to benefit the whole classical music sector.”
“I am thrilled to be joining Chris, the Board of Management, staff and the many valued volunteers at 3MBS to continue the long and successful history of providing Melbourne with independent, fine music. Joining 3MBS signifies a singular opportunity to work with a community of passionate and dedicated fine music lovers and I look forward to expanding the radio station’s supporters and networks to provide broadcasting opportunities to our young musicians and composers.”
