What does the future hold for
3MBS?
It will continue to be about the music! 3MBS
will do all it can to promote classical music through broadcasting.
It will support local musicians and classical music experiences
such as live performances, music education, understanding
and appreciation.
Volunteers and staff at the station have worked hard to
develop the premises so that they are a safe, clean and
comfortable place for everyone to work. As a community station,
it is important that anyone who shares the objectives of
the station has the opportunity to contribute to its development
through active participation in its operation and decision
making. 3MBS hopes to involve more people in its operations
as the range of activities at the station grow.
There are a number of goals that the station is keen to
achieve in the future. It will utilise new technologies
to enhance listeners' enjoyment of music. This will include
internet streaming, audio on demand, digital transmission
and podcasting. These technologies will not change the music.
However, they will allow listeners to hear the music of
the highest possible quality at a time and place of their
choosing.
3MBS will partner more organisations to bring enhanced services
to its listeners. These will include ticketing services,
music-based tourism, broadcasts of the best possible live
performances and the highest quality recordings. 3MBS may
partner other radio stations in Melbourne to produce, for
example, a jazz station to complement and preserve a classical
music service.
As technology develops, the station will become much more
than a radio station. With one of the best collections of
recordings available and with broadcasting at the core,
3MBS will develop moving picture capacity that will bring
alive its database. It will be a recording studio, a marketing
vehicle, a market for music-related products such as CDs,
DVDs, music appreciation courses, books and information.
Chat rooms and other forms of interaction will be the new
shape of the station in the future. The music of Mozart
will still be alive in 30 years and 3MBS will be part of
it.
